What is Yard Art?
Broadly speaking, yard art is any man-made aesthetic experience occurring in a private yard or garden, as well as those found in yard-esque outdoor spaces such as pastures, nurseries, community gardens, and vacant lots.
Yard art manifests itself along a continuum from painted surfaces and sculpted forms to compelling assemblages of objects brought together according to no particular plan. It often possesses informal, idiosyncratic, and colloquial qualities also found in folk and outsider art (some might even call it outsider art found outside).
Artworks commissioned by corporations for office parks or by governments for civic spaces are usually not considered yard art.
Above all, yard art is art, and as such is best appreciated on its own terms, rather than by any that might be imposed upon it.
